Sneak's Eyes Only Blog

November 2003

30th - In what Sneak shall now refer to as the Curse of the GBG, we can confirm that the George & Dragon in Tarring has become a part of the Cox Empire.

28th - More changes in the planning stage? Rumors abound, one of Sneak's favorite pubs is being taken over by a local pub co. More details when we have it.

23rd - Sneak had a nice half of Harvey's in the Cricketers (Broadwater) today. Shame it was in a pint glass!

19th - The horror of it all! A recent poll to identify the greatest technological invention of the past 40 years has come up with some strange results. Of the 9,000 responses 48% voted for the widget, the small nitrogen-filled capsule placed inside "beer" cans to force the "brew" to release dissolved carbon dioxide when the can is opened creating a "head" on the "beer". Next came the web with 13% of the vote and mobile phones came third with 7%. Must have done the survey in Worthing's Chapel Road late on a Saturday night me thinks!

16th - Sneak woke up this morning and had an idea (strange that). Anyway, perhaps if CAMRA stopped publishing the Good Beer Guide the pub companies wouldn't know which pubs to buy! Or for something more radical - publish the cr*p pubs in the GBG in the hope the pub co's would buy them. Then again perhaps the pub co's own them already.

15th - Is there no end to the bad news? The Castle's new owners (see 10th October) seem to be reducing the beer range and installing a pool table along with a big (very) screen TV. Football fans will rejoice no doubt but Sneak wonders how some of the bands will cope against Monday night with Mr Murdoch!

12th - Sneak's been drowning his sorrow's. The 4ths rumour has come true and the Fountain (at least 22 entries in the Good Beer Guide) is being taken out of the true free trade. Worse to come the Pub Co with the cheque book looks like none other than Mr Punch. The "tenant" also looks like he's known; currently running the Amsterdam (from Shoreham) and Lamb (from some tiny hamlet that is really Yapton).

However, there is some good news, courtesy of the Herald (that widely read paper) the Corner House (many may remember it as the Maple Leaf (or visa versa) by Tesco in Durrington) doesn't need to be surveyed anymore. The metal shutters (fixed) are soon to go, then again so are the walls, the roof and the floor and a bit of greenery will replace the place (sorry about that).

4th - Please tell Sneak it's not true. Rumour has it that the Fountain at Ashurst - a wonderful pub and previous winner of Pub of the Year in Arun & Adur (2001) - has been sold to an undisclosed "pub company". Rumours abound about the size of the cheque but however big it is we hope that nothing ruins this glorious pub. Sneak thinks a trip there soon could be in order, catch it before it all goes!

Email the local branch for more information.
