Sneak's Eyes Only Blog

March 2004

30th - Sneak was invited to the AGM of the local High Command. Let it be said Sneak was impressed with the decisions, especially the POTY.

28th - Sneak has had a bit of a "lost weekend" but not in Amsterdam rather Arundel. Hundreds of people RUNNING around the wildbrooks getting in the way and then a pub full of kids (and their parents) running amuck. Gives Sneak and the Mrs (with kids) a bad name! Anyway, the Swan is being converted by Gales (according to the 'Coke Man' rumour has it a 'theme pub' is on its way!). But the Boggart Hole Clough at the Kings Arms was good - nice to see a bit(ter) from Manchester in deep and darkest Arundel (makes a change from the LP, Badgers and Bass).

21st - Sneak has heard that the new owners of the Castle have turned around the "improvements" of the previous landlord. Three beers being offered in good order and if we drink enough a fourth maybe added. The new landlords promise to stay for the long haul, which given the time the last four landlords averaged is less than a year, is something to be praised.

20th - Sneak was horrified to see a member of the High Command in Safeway (sponsor of the 'Good Bottled Beer Guide' - there's a plug if ever Sneak saw one) with a large case of Grolsch in his trolley. Is he off his trolley? Well considering the 'real' beer in a bottle range and the prices being charged at Safeway possibly not! (and that's not a plug!)

13th - Sneak noticed that Café Central has been closed for 'refurbishment' for the last week or so. Not that Sneak thinks for one minute they'll be putting any real ale in. But what Sneak has noticed is that over the last five years all the pubs in Chapel Road have had numerous face-lifts, refurbishments, and nips and tucks. Go on just think. The Assembly was the Firkin when Sneak came to Worthing (and it was the only pub in Chapel Road) so they rip the brewery out, and convert it in to a "pub come coffee house" then it gets another face lift. Then there is the Toad, Yates and Café Central, the saving grace of Chapel Road is the 'Spoons.

10th - So far a quiet month for the curse of the Good Beer Guide, and Sneak. But things are looking up for the next few days (for Sneak that is!) However, Sneak did have his worst and, possibly, best pint of the old SL from the same pub this year. Apple Factor or what!
