Sneak's Eyes Only Blog

February 2004

27th - Busy year so far for the Curse of the Good Beer Guide is 2004. The latest travesty is the Woodman Arms. Gales (as helpful as ever) refuse to comment, but Sneak has it on good authority that the pub is closed, hopefully not forever and (even more so) hopefully not to turn it in to another Charlie Chalks© type establishment, or a TAB (even worse!).

23rd - Sneak learns that the rumour alluded to on the 17th is true, a certain "Bleak House" is up for sale. Rumour also has it that the asking price is very high.

20th - A short break for Sneak in the form of a trip to Cornwall. Bass seemed to be the order of the day until the landlord came up trumps with some Skinners (Keel Over) and Sharps (Doom Bar).

18th - Sneak sampled some of the French beer at the Selden excellent. Sneak can now tell you where it was as its all gone now!

17th - Concerns about the other free house in Worthing arise. Sneak knows its rumour but ...

16th - Sneak thinks the week is going down hill - but not the pubs! Sneaks first visit to the Drew Drop Inn in Littlehampton (or Wick) excellent beer was sampled, even Mrs Sneak enjoyed her half. But then she didn't venture in to the public bar!

15th - Quick trip with Sneak juniors to the Coach and Horses (is it Worthing or Clapham the fight will go on). Disappointed with the excuses "we thought no one would come for Sunday lunch the day after Valentines". Get real, who is mad enough to pay the silly VD prices! Beer was good though - all four of them!

14th - Ahhh Valentines Day! Sneak was most impressed with his "gift" - two tickets for Hove Beer Festival. Mrs Sneak was nearly most impressed (no really). Met another asortment of dubious drinkers got really p****d and passed out close to 8pm after buying lots of Dr Who DVDs in a sale in Hove. Well someone had to.

13th - Yet another Beer Festival for Sneak. Hove proved to be very popular and Sneak was informed that it (Hove BF) was better than Liverpool. Having never been to Liverpool (beer festival OR city) Sneak thinks that a bit of a compliment to the organisers. We hope!

1st - Sneak took the family for a walk (minus Mrs Sneak!) and mud bath. Over Highdown and down for a "spot" of sunday lunch at the Spotted Cow. Alas all the tables were booked (at 11.50am). If you want to eat there Sneak recommends an advance booking. Ended up at the End of the World (!) food is good but £2.65 for a pint of Tanglefoot is a bit steep. It was packed mind!
