This large 18th century pub was once used by smugglers. It has an open planned restaurant area (in the conservatory) and a smaller drinking bar. In here is a sign that warns patrons who wish to visit the toilet (gents) to be aware of beer barrels in the corridor. There are beamed ceilings throughout and a function area. Booking is nearly always esstential for Sunday lunch and recommended at other times. There is an enclosed garden and a small outside play area. Boules can be played here and there is a conker competition in October. Children are welcomed in the restaurant. The pub is a sister pub to the Fox at Patching.
