Indepentant Free House

Dark Star Hophead; Ringwood 49er; Guest Beers (usually from small brewers)

This smallish local is a genuine free house with six excellent ales being served and has a very loyal following. The Selden Arms dates back to at least 1869. It was winner of the local branch Pub of the Year 2006. The 'Selden' was also Pub of the Year in 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2000 and was runner-up and Town Pub of the Year in 2001.

Inside the Selden Arms

The Selden has been refurbished and photographs of Worthing pubs, old and new(ish), are on display.

Over 800 different real ales (as April 2007) have been served since the current owners arrived in 1998. One of the hand pumps is usually reserved for a dark beer (could be a mild, stout, old or porter).  Real cider and a range of Belgium bottled beers are stocked. Excellent lunchtime food (value and quantity!) served Monday to Saturday and a monthly Sunday roast (check for details).

Inside the Selden Arms

A range of Dark Star lagers (including Spiced Viced), a Belgium Kriek as well as three ciders are also on draught (a Perry is available sometimes and even a Pider occassionally). Occasional music in the evenings. There is now a small non-smoking area towards the rear.

Small beer festivals are arranged (Jan/Feb).

"Superb beer, the best pub in the area. Three pictures - deserves more! "
