Harveys Sussex Best Bitter; Shepherd Neame Spitfire
This cream coloured pub has maroon-painted signs, window frames and doors and is close to the bridge. The pub dates from 1504. This is a long pub with with dark, thick and plentiful beams, horse brasses and a smattering of old prints depicting river views and the local cement works. A dart board, gaming machines, a TV and the pub dips down to the right and the restaurant where anyone over 5 foot would need to take care. The wonderful garden was once described as "one of the most attractive beer gardens in the South of England". Close to the river and plenty of local walks.
How to find: In the centre of village. About 5 minutes from the bridge.
