A fine 16th century pub and restaurant that is a regular GBG entry (29 and counting) and was local pub of the year in 2001. There is a narrow entrance that has two bars and a dining area leading off of it. There are low exposed beams, flagstone floors and open fires in this former farmhouse. The large garden has a duck pond with a fountain. There is a traditional wooden barn outbuilding that has a skittle alley and can be used as a function room. Paul McCartney and Wings filmed part of the video for their Christmas No.1 ‘Wonderful Christmas Time’ here. The pub is also mentioned in Hillaire Belloc’s ‘The Four Men’. No food served Sunday evening. Only children over eight are allowed inside.
