Welcome to the CAMRA Arun & Adur Real Ale Guide published online. The online version is basically the same as the Arun & Adur Real Ale Guide - but should be more up-to-date. It covers all the pubs in the Arun & Adur branch area. This covers, basically, the area between the rivers Arun (in the west) and Adur (in the east) and the A272 (in the north), with the sea being the southern boundary. This means that Arundel, Lancing, Littlehampton, Petworth, Pulborough, Steyning, Storrington and Worthing, all form part of the branch (map). There are nearly 200 pubs and bars in our branch area.
We would like to think the Guide (and its online version) is perfect, but inevitably it will not be. Our pub inspections take place on a continuous basis but there will be some pubs that change hands, close down, open up, start/stop serving real ale, change their opening times and change their name, even as the Guide is at the printers or just as it is updated online.
Telephone numbers are provided for all entries (where possible), and if there is some feature you are particularly interested in you would be advised to phone before visiting. OS refernces are also provided as well as Streetmap links, but please double check them as we can not be responsible if they are a little out! (Let us know and we'll corrent them though!)
We also organise the Worthing Beer Festival in October each year; for more information about this event go to the festivals section or watch out for information in What's Brewing or Sussex Drinker or go to CAMRA's Festival section.
CAMRA is the beer lovers' organisation and, not surprisingly, many of its members regularly visit the pubs throughout the branch area, either individually or as part of our social activities.
However, so that we collectthe information contained within this guide a number of volunteers visit each pub unannounced to carry out a survey. This exercise is carried out on a conitual basis so that the guide is as up-to-date as possible.
As with all CAMRA local guides, advertising is not accepted from individual pubs and no inducements, either financial or otherwise, are accepted to influence the listing in this publication.
Neither the editor nor publisher can accept any responsibility for errors, omissions or other inaccuracies and the descriptions of the pubs are the opinions of the individual surveyors not necessarily the collective view of the branch or editor who may not have visited every pub personally (but he's trying!).
In 2005 the government relaxed the times that pubs could open, effectively allowing them to open for 24 hours if there was demand or local approval. In practice the world did not end and most pubs are sticking to the "traditional" core hours of 11-11 in towns and 11-3 and 5/6-11 in the countryside. However, some pubs vary the times they open depending on the day of the week, month, season, sporting events, weather, special events, landlord's sleeping habits, number of people in the pub. The guide therefore does not have opening times in it.
If you are desperate to visit a particular pub please check in advance.
Arun & Adur CAMRA do not encourage you to drive to pubs unless you have a designated driver. Do not drink and drive - use public transport or your own two feet.

Finally, a big thanks to those people who contribute to the updating of the guide, in both its online and offline (printed) versions. Special thanks to branch members who regularly visit some of the unstarred pubs (rather than those with 3) to check to see if things have changed. Thanks also to the Quaffer for the use of some of his words. If you see a copy of "The Quaffer" about I suggest you pick it up and read it.
