Littleworth to Worthing

The best way to do this crawl is with a designated driver. Public transport is not really an option.

Starting from the excellent GBG listed Windmill in Littleworth, which is a Badger House now but displays its heritage proudly at the entrance (give you a clue? Its an old King & Barnes house). This is a true locals pub with plenty going on.

Leaving the Windmill head south towards Partridge Green, take a left at the first roundabout and about half a mile on is the Partridge Hotel. This is definitely a pub of two halves. There is the popular lounge area and the popular locals public bar with live music on some evenings.

At the 'T' junction head south again, towards the award winning Fountain at Ashurst. This is a true country pub; large flagstone floors and equally large fireplaces, wobbly tables and chairs, and usually a barrel on the bar.

Leaving the Fountain gives you some choices. But head south again.

Coming to the A283 there are three possibilities.

Head across the road (it's a bit of a 'dog-leg' really) and in to Steyning. Where there are plenty of pubs to continue the crawl. Turning left (east) and you head towards Bramber, Upper Beeding and eventually Shoreham. Or right (west) to Washington, which is the route we are taking.

At Washington there is the Frankland Arms, voted by readers of the Worthing Herald as their pub of the year in 2004, but that is for the food. The beer is fine but stick to what you know.

There is no need to re-join the A283, just drive off and up the road you'll get to the A24 eventually. Once on the A24 driving south again gives you the chance to sample the delights of Findon, or just carry on to wherever you are going in Worthing.

"Whatever you do enjoy it!"
